Privacy Policy
What we collect when you use this website, why, and who else can see it. Written to be read rather than to be survived.

The short version
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from any other company. We do not track you across the internet, and we have nothing to sell to anyone who would want us to.
The only information we hold about you is what you typed into a form and sent us on purpose.

What this policy covers
This website, at arkec.org, and nothing else.
Three services we use are not covered by it, because they are run by other companies who hold your information under their own terms. Each has its own privacy policy, and you should read whichever one applies to you:
- Procare, where families enroll and where family records are kept.
- Givebutter, where donations are made and payments are processed.
- LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram, if you visit our pages there.
We link to those services from this site, but nothing about you reaches them until you click.
What we collect
What you give us
Four forms on this site, and this is every field each one has:

Nothing on any of those forms is collected that is not shown on the form.
What is collected automatically
Our host keeps standard web server records, which is how every website on the internet works. Those records can include an IP address, the page requested, and the time of the request. We do not use them to build a picture of you, and we do not combine them with anything you have sent us.
What we do not collect
We think this is worth stating plainly, because almost every site you visit does the opposite:
- No cookies. This site does not set any.
- No analytics. We do not use Google Analytics or any other service that counts or follows visitors.
- No advertising trackers, pixels or beacons. There are none, from anybody.
- No embedded content. No videos, maps, chat widgets or social feeds that would report your visit to the company that made them.
- No fonts, scripts or images from other companies. Even the typefaces are served from our own site, so your visit here is between you and us.
If that ever changes, this section changes with it, in the same breath.
How we use what you give us
- To answer you when you write to us.
- To talk to you about volunteering, partnering, or being an ambassador, if that is what you asked about.
- To send you news about The ARK, if you asked for it.
- To tell you about our programs if you asked about enrolling.
One thing worth explaining. When you choose a way to help on the Get Involved form, we record that choice on your contact record as a label, so that when we have something to ask ambassadors to do, we can find the ambassadors. That is all those labels are for.
We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you.
Who else can see it
We use other companies to run the organization. Each of them can see some of what you send us, and only for the purpose listed:

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.
We do not trade, rent or exchange our donor or supporter lists with any other organization. This is common in the nonprofit sector and we do not do it.
We will share information when the law requires it, and we will tell you if that happens unless we are forbidden from doing so.
Children
This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them here. Our forms are written for parents, donors, volunteers and partners, and we ask you not to use them on behalf of a child.
ARK's programs serve young people from age 5. Enrollment does not happen on this website. It happens through Procare, where a parent or guardian creates the record and agrees to Procare's terms.
If you believe a child has sent us information through this site, write to info@arkec.org and we will delete it.
Photographs
We publish photographs of young people in our programs on this site and on our social media. We do not publish a photograph of a young person without a signed release on file, and that rule is written into our brand guidelines rather than left to memory.
If you are a parent or guardian and you want a photograph of your child taken down, write to info@arkec.org. We will take it down. You do not have to give a reason.
How long we keep it
We keep what you send us for as long as we need it for the purpose you sent it for, and then we delete it.
In practice that means a message answered and finished with is not kept indefinitely, and a contact record is kept while there is an active relationship. If you ask us to delete your information, we will.
Your choices
You can ask us to do any of these, whether or not the law where you live requires it of us:
- Unsubscribe from our email at any time. Every newsletter has a link, and it works.
- See what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete what we hold about you.
Write to info@arkec.org. We will reply within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
How we protect it
- The whole site is served over an encrypted connection.
- Access to contact records is limited to the staff who need it.
- We never see or store your payment card details. If you donate, your card goes directly to Givebutter's payment processor and nothing about it reaches us.
No organization can promise perfect security and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that we hold as little as possible, which is the only protection that never fails.
Links to other sites
When you follow a link away from this site, you are on somebody else's website under somebody else's rules. We are not responsible for what they do, and we would encourage you to read their privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change something that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and say what changed. If the change is significant, we will say so on the site.
Español
This policy is published in Spanish as well. We have done our best to make the two say the same thing, but the English version is the authoritative one if they ever differ.
